Which bible translation is the best or most accurate? This is not an easy question to answer but you should be informed and understand the type of translation you are reading or will choose to read because not all translations are good translations.

 

Today there are hundreds of bible translations to choose from and many should be avoided unless you are more knowledgeable in the scriptures. However, it is good to compare some of the different translations in order to gain a better understanding.

There are many more types, but to keep it simple, start with two basic groups.  The word-for-word, and thought-for-thought translations.

 

The word-for-word  translation directly interprets each word to English as closely as possible.

The thought-for-thought translation attempts to take the original thought being presented and express it in English.

Consider these version to start with:

• KJV or King James Version is word-for-word  

• NKJV or New King James Version is word-for-word

• ESV or English Standard word-for-word 

• NIV or New International Version is a hybrid of word-for-word and thought-for-thought

• NLT or New Living Translation thought-for-thought
